A World War II Legacy: Protect the Tinian monarch!
Verenigd Links,
The small, South Pacific island of Tinian played a unique role in history. It was the site of a huge battle with the Japanese, and once Allied forces claimed the island, they built the largest airbase in World War II. The base then launched both atomic bomb missions.
Nearly lost to the massive deforestation required to build the base is an interesting little warbler, with a vocalization that makes it sound like a squeaky dog toy. The Tinian monarch recovered from World War II's impacts, but is on the brink of disappearing into history again.
