TREASURE
WAITING TO BE DISCOVERED
Yamashita's
gold,
also referred to as the Yamashita
treasure,
is the name given to the alleged war
loot stolen in Southeast
Asia by Japanese
forces during World
War II and hidden in caves, tunnels and underground complexes in
the Philippines.
It is named for the Japanese general Tomoyuki
Yamashita, nicknamed "The Tiger of Malaya". Though
accounts that the treasure remains hidden in the Philippines have
lured treasure hunters from around the world for over fifty years,
its existence is dismissed by most experts.
Nazi
plunder
refers to art
theft and other items stolen as a result of the organized
looting of European countries during the time of the Third
Reich by agents acting on behalf of the ruling Nazi
Party of Germany.
Plundering occurred from 1933 until the end of World
War II, particularly by military units known as the
Kunstschutz,
although most plunder was acquired during the war. In addition to
gold, silver
and currency, cultural items of great significance were stolen,
including paintings, ceramics, books, and religious treasures.
Although most of these items were recovered by agents of the
Monuments,
Fine Arts, and Archives program (MFAA), affectionately
referred to as the Monuments Men, on behalf of the Allies
immediately following the war, many are still missing. There is an
international effort under way to identify Nazi plunder that still
remains unaccounted for, with the aim of ultimately returning the
items to the rightful owners, their families or their respective
countries.
ROMMEL'S
SCHATZ/ ROMMEL'S TREASURE

his campaign in Northern-Africa the Afrika Korps plundered the areas
they occupied, extensively. Especially rich Jews lost their gold and
precious object and banks were plundered. In 1943 the Germans
retreated to Sicily and further into Italy. A special unit was
responsible for the transportation of the treasure into safety. The
boat they used sank into the Mediterranean. Location unknown. The
